One Brother’s Dream, Another Brother’s Reality: The Kumar Family’s Legacy

New Delhi [India], December 7: In the heart of Bihar’s Chauradano, a small village, Motihari, a tale of brotherly love and sacrifice unfolds, showcasing the extraordinary journey of Dhruva Kumar  (popularly known as Dhruv Ji in India) and his elder brother, Prabhat Jaiswal. Their story is a testament to the power of family bonds and the transformative impact of selfless support.

The year 2000 brought tragedy to the Kumar household with the untimely demise of their father, leaving them with literally nothing and on the road to survive. In a moment that would define their futures, Prabhat, affectionately known as Chandu Bhaiya, made a decision that would alter the course of both their lives. Putting aside his own aspirations, he shouldered the family’s responsibilities, determined to nurture his younger brother’s potential.

Recognising Dhruva’s exceptional abilities, Prabhat made the bold move of sending him to Kota, India’s coaching capital, despite all odds, as Dhruva was exceptional in his academic achievements, always a topper. It was here that Dhruva’s academic prowess flourished, having received full scholarships from Bansal, Narayana, Kota School and MPS Schools, setting the stage for his remarkable journey ahead. Prabhat’s vision extended beyond conventional career paths, encouraging Dhruva to explore opportunities that would truly challenge his capabilities.

This unwavering support bore fruit as Dhruva excelled academically, eventually pursuing higher education abroad. Today, Dhruva Kumar stands as a beacon of success in the field of education. As the Head of Curriculum for Marine Engineering at the City of Glasgow College, he oversees the training of one-third of the UK’s marine engineering apprentices.

Dhruva Kumar’s political journey in Scotland has been marked by his strong advocacy for Scottish independence and his involvement with the Alba Party. As a prominent member of Alba, Kumar has been actively engaged in promoting the party’s vision for an independent Scotland.

In 2024, Kumar’s political career reached a significant milestone when he was selected by the Alba Party to contest the UK general elections for the Glasgow South constituency as an MP candidate.

This selection highlighted the party’s recognition of Kumar’s potential as a political candidate and his alignment with Alba’s core values and objectives. Kumar’s campaign for the Glasgow South seat focused on several key issues: Social equality, Economic Development, and Sustainable policies.

A staunch defender of workers’ rights, Kumar has been instrumental in preserving Scottish trade union education centers. His expertise has been sought at the highest levels, including the Westminster shipbuilding inquiry, where he passionately argued for enhanced worker protections.

Dhruva’s contributions extend far beyond education, social justice, and politics. He has been instrumental in modernising maritime education, addressing challenges posed by automation and climate change in the shipping industry. His research on maritime education during the COVID-19 pandemic has provided strategic frameworks for enhancing the resilience of training systems.

Dhruva’s influence extends beyond Scotland’s borders. As a key figure in fostering India-Scotland relations, he’s spearheaded initiatives like the Ganga Project aimed at boosting bilateral trade and cultural ties. His role in the Ministry of Defence India Conference underscores his commitment to international cooperation.

Throughout his journey, Dhruva has never forgotten the sacrifices that made his success possible. His achievements stand as a living tribute to Prabhat’s selflessness and foresight. Today, Dhruva balances his professional accomplishments with a fulfilling family life, sharing his success with his wife, Kamni Jaiswal and their children, Varda and Achintya.

Kumar’s commitment to social justice shines through his presidency of the Gandhian Peace Society in Scotland, where he champions racial and religious tolerance. His charitable work, supporting education for underprivileged children, reflects his deep-rooted commitment to community welfare.

The Kumar brothers’ story serves as an inspiring reminder of the profound impact one person’s sacrifice can have on another’s life. It underscores the enduring power of familial love and the heights that can be reached when someone believes in your potential. In Dhruva’s success, we see the reflection of Prabhat’s dreams, a beautiful testament to the unbreakable bond between brothers.
